BEFORE YOU FALL IN LOVE
singles seminar series

When you get behind the wheel of a car it usually means you’re going somewhere; you have a destination. Yet in our directionless dating culture, romantic relationships are like a series of “joy rides” where the joy ends after you run out of gas… or overheat the engine. At best you’re wasting time, money and energy; at worst you’re permanently damaging your relational engine… and you only get one of those.
Forget about marriage for a moment, does this sound like the way to get the most out of life? Are you ready to put the joy rides behind you and prepare for the awesome calling of marriage?
The Before You Fall In Love seminar series is all about figuring out where you’re headed, and what you need to get there safely and sanely before you set off on the grand journey of dating and courtship.
There are three separate seminars in the series:

Besides Sex & Salvation
singles conference

If you’ve spent any amount of time at all as a Christian single in the church, you’ve probably learned two things about marriage.
• Wait until you’re married to have sex.
and
• Marry a Christian.
Is there anything else?
Well yes… but usually further marriage training isn’t pursued until a couple is engaged – or at least seriously dating. This is too little too late. At best it’s too much too late, but usually it’s too little much too late.
This conference will help you understand what makes marriage work... and not work. You’ll find out what it takes to navigate the road to marriage and through marriage carefully, purposefully and successfully. More importantly, this conference can give you unique and practical insight into God’s plan for your life right now – as a single adult – equipping you with useful tools and guidelines for communicating, working through conflict, and growing in Christ.
Whether you remain single or your rendezvous w/ Mr. or Ms. Right is right around the corner, you’ll acquire an invaluable outlook on relationships in general and marriage in particular from attending a Besides Sex & Salvation singles conference.
In the conference we cover abbreviated versions of the following sessions:

I WANT TO BECOME AN FMU ALUM!

Here's what FMU alum are saying...
"Michael and Julie had unique vulnerability about their own marriage that made the practical application of marriage values easier to digest."

Being ready for marriage before you fall in love... priceless.
“It’s not about Michael & Julie, but about God and his calling. They are honest about their lives and share how God transformed and shaped their marriage.”

- Jamese '07 alum (married in '08)
" I absolutely loved Michael & Julieís teaching. Their application of Biblical truth was inspiring each week. It was an honest and real presentation of what marriage is like, couched in a lot of humor. I would recommend one of their seminars to anyone who hopes to one day be married."
- Allison '07 alum
If you find them... will you be ready?
"Michael and Julie's class was great - helping me think about the different ways men and women relate, as well as my own preconceived notions about marriage. When I later married, the things I learned in their class helped my husband and I head off problems BEFORE they happened. Their honesty about their own experiences is refreshing, and the concern they have for the people they teach is evident in their teaching style and the time they invested. I would highly recommend that anyone who is ever thinking about being married to attend their seminar!"
- Molli '03 alum (married in '05)
"Walking through this series on marriage with Michael and Julie was one of the greatest things I could have done to prepare myself for marriage. My husband, Josh, and I were engaged not long after the end of the course, and even during the stressful wedding planning stages, we were able to keep our focus on God, on the importance of a lasting marriage- not just a memorable wedding, and were able to open up to each other even further in those final months.
The class was fun, informative, and a great way to connect with others and ask honest questions. I would recommend this course to anyone- in any stage of a relationship! It’s a great way to learn about yourself, others, what you would like to have in a mate, and what type of mate you want to become."

"Two things really stuck with me. The first one was this: marriage is a ministry! That was a 2 by 4 across the bridge of my nose. Marriage has less to do with me and my 'satisfaction' than it does about INTIMATELY ministering to a child of God (in my case a daughter of God) for the rest of my life.
The second one was this: itís perfectly ok to feel completely unprepared for and un-enticed by marriage, if that realization stems from an honest grasp of the gravity of the ministry, not from some carnal urge to 'play the field'. Struck with this final 'epiphany', I immediately breathed the most welcome sigh of relief in my quarter-century of life. I took the first class when I had just turned 26. I'm now 30 years old and, though I'm more open today to the life-long ministry of marriage, I must say my sense of urgency is markedly diminished today from its crest at 26 years of age."

Oh what a feeling... FMU!
"Some of us have gotten married. Some are still waiting. But all of us have walked away with a stronger confidence that God's ultimate plan for our lives is what matters, not the world's standard."

Wouldn't you like to attend FMU too?
“After the class I felt equipped to carefully and prayerfully navigate a possible relationship. But ultimately I was encouraged to seek the One who loves and saves my heart.”

- Rebecca '05 alum (married in '08)
"What I loved most about my experience with Michael & Julie were the stories they shared about their marriage - the challenging times and most importantly the triumph they both experienced as a result of trusting God and making Him the center of their marriage. I loved the fact that they were so transparent with us. It created an environment where you felt comfortable to share"

"Mike and Julie did a great job of speaking the truth plainly about marriage. They focused on the practical side of marriage, how life truly could be, that I really hadn't considered. I'm thankful that Mike and Julie not only care so deeply about communicating to singles how to prepare for marriage but they also deliver the message in a way that is interactive and relevant."
- Stephanie '05 alum (married in '06)
FMU - Don't fall in love without it!
“After years of dating, experiencing a consistent pattern of attraction, excitement, disillusionment, and ultimately demise, I began to wonder if there was a better way. I have to admit, beforehand I was skeptical, but when Michael began to share, I was moved by his heart; his heart for the Lord, his heart for us - even though he didn't know us. Michael and Julie's transparency; sharing their successes and failures as a couple and sharing God's plan and design for relationship helped me to take an entirely new view to relationships.... A view that I am convinced is one every person whether single, dating, engaged, or married can benefit from. And even if you don't learn anything, you will be entertained!”
